What is liver cancer?

Liver cancer refers to the growth and spread of malignant (cancerous) cells in the liver. The liver is an essential organ located in the upper right part of the abdomen, responsible for several crucial functions in the body, including detoxification, metabolism of nutrients, and the production of proteins necessary for blood clotting.

There are two primary types of liver cancer:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): This is the most common type of liver cancer and originates in the hepatocytes, which are the main functional cells of the liver. HCC is often associated with underlying liver diseases, such as cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B or C infection, or alcohol-related liver damage.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: This type of liver cancer starts in the bile ducts within the liver. It is less common than HCC but can still be quite aggressive.

What are the symptoms of Liver Cancer?
